If you favor CNN OR Fox and are not dismayed by this, you may now be numb and no longer capable of outrage. Scary if thats our new normal.

If this is who we are or who we are becoming, I have wasted 40 years of my life. Until now it was not possible for me to conceive of an American President capable of such an outrageous assault on truth, a free press or the first amendment.

That a man who spent decades in the military, earning over two dozen awards and decorations, and served another decade in the intelligence community, fears all of his years of service could come to be for nought in the Trump era is nothing short of frightening.
The press that Trump so snidely derides has proven itself to be far more crucial to the security of this country and its citizens than Trump ever has, or likely ever will.

I think that we should state in addition to this, WHY THE HELL DID THIS 4 STAR GENERAL WAIT SO LONG TO SPEAK UP??????
Why did anyone wait to speak up? And why are they still waiting?

(5,995 posts)While that might have been the start of it, once in office he's decided that it's in his own best interests to continue to pander to the lowest denominator. He'll ride this out as long as he's showing a profit, financial or emotional, then dump it like a failing casino or aging wife.

(91,006 posts)...stage an uprising to rein in Trump -- that his enablers wouldn't continue to enable him.
People like Heyden, I mean. The military is trained to stay out of partisan politics, to do their duty and serve the office of the POTUS. They swear an oath to defend the Constitution, not the man in office.
So many waited so long.
Alice11111
(5,730 posts)Are breaking rank and speaking out, means it is really bad. I think they themselves will be asking themselves someday, why they waited so long. Where is Colin Powell , BTW...he's been pretty quiet. Even the Bushes are speaking out, and we never heard a peep from them during Obama's administration.
Have you noticed that Comey is trolling Trump now? I
Still don't forgive him, but I like his trolling.

Never forget that. Trump won the electoral college, not the votes of the majority or plurality of Americans.

(3,515 posts)Hilllary won 3 million (approximately) more votes than Trump. But those 3 million or so votes were in states like California, and we who live in those states are cheated in the presidential elections.
Just say no to the electoral college.
One person, one vote. Why not?
We amended our Constitution to give freed slaves and then women the vote. Why not amend it to give Californians, Texans, Floridians, New Yorkers and others in populous state, an EQUAL vote?

(12,885 posts)Trump is merely the most glaring symptom of a malignant disease highly resistant to any cure.
The best we can do is shed a spotlight on the disease and rally enough of the electorate to render it as powerless as possible.

(4,250 posts)only when the disease has had plenty of time to do its dirty work underneath the surface. We are witnessing this firsthand and it is effing gross, I agree. While the emergency room should attend to our national wounds currently, don't forget to attend to the long-term prognosis and it ain't good. This will not be an easy fix.

(5,730 posts)Got their ignorant, evil agenda to be a reality. I bet most of us thought it would not really ever happen. Not in America. We didn't want him, and we knew it would be bad, but no one knew it could be this bad.
Part of thr Kochs just bought Time magazine, which has been good at calling Dotard out. Next, it may be the NYT.
The RW media is looking at CNN too.
This tax bill being rammed through is not a small thing. It is huge. We won't ever be the same country again, I fear.
I just hope the political pendulum swings hard in response.

(3,335 posts)come forward and say whether they agree with him or not. And it shouldn't stop there. The Lt. Colonels who are next in line behind those Generals, and the Colonels, and the Captains, and the 1st Lieutenants, and the 2nd Lieutenants should all fall in line and back this 4 Star General standing shoulder to shoulder to send the message to Drump, the Dotard that he can fire them all one by one but they will just be replaced by another man who wears the uniform of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine and yes the Coast Guard too, who have and will continue to serve this country and defend our Constitution against ALL enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC to include you Mr. President, so choose your side. You're either with us in defense of the First Amendment, to include a free press even when you agree with them, or you're not.

tRumputin's destroying this country. And, even if Mueller does have the goods on him, the Congress won't impeach him. OR, If this fat pig does leave the oval office due to "health problems/issues," OR, if putin blackmailed him to the point that he leaves to save face, this country will have sustained IRREPARABLE damage in just 1 to possibly 4 years that won't be repaired in my lifetime (I'm 56) IE: Him stacking the courts with either religious/RWNJ judges who will in my lifetime try to get RID of Roe vs Wade and in every state that they CAN, or with a person who isn't qualified to be a federal judge: RWNJ Brett Talley BLOGGER, Hillary-HATER, NRA LOVER approved by the Senate (Along party lines) & slated to become a federal judge whose never tried a case and who was rated "unqualified" by the ABA Panel.
We're in TROUBLE judicially unless Democrats gain control of the Senate and can block fatso's "crazy" court appointments.

(509 posts)I am sad that many of my veteran friends who I served with have fallen for the lies and propaganda that FOX promotes. It is disheartening that they can't change the channel. They aren't getting their country back by watching it, they are losing their minds. I pray for anyone in the military right now. They are serving a dictator.

(32,904 posts)...but I do believe that General Hayden along with most of the other Generals are very disappointed in Trump.
They realize Trump's a terrible leader, and embarrassment to our country and a menace to the world. I'm sure these men all voted for Trump because, men. Now they see what a mistake this was and they can't see a way out of it. Hopefully Cheeto will get the message and tone down the assholery.

I Hope Mueller Safari becomes a reality. Most Repubs think it is a plot by Hillary. I'm afraid their reaction will be the same as it was to the Hollywood Access Tapes. This time they are prepared though, instead of shocked. Anyway, Dotard says it was fake now. He and the people who believe him are batshit crazy.
God, I pray I am wrong and Mueller prevails in spite of the Repubs.

(54,506 posts)The world outside the USA does NOT depend on CNN international for most of its information about the USA, but rather correspondents of their own news media stationed in the USA.
If it's a correspondent from a country with controlled news, then their correspondents will report what they are told to report. I remember when the head guy for TACC (the Soviet "news" agency), Igor Ignatiev (the KGB guy, not the artist of the same name), tried to recruit my dad to work for them. Their offices were on the same floor of the National Press Building in Washington. My dad told him politely to fuck off, and Igor said, OK, I had to try. He wasn't exaggerating, either. It was not an initiative, it was an order. He HAD to try. Igor was a perfectly pleasant guy to talk to, but his job was what it was. Same goes for Fox Noise. Their instructions are NOT to report news as factually as they can, but to report what they are told. They are to put the proper slant on what they report or stay silent.
But correspondents from countries like England, France, Germany, Japan, etc., even if they work for government-sponsored news, are under no instructions other than to be as factual as possible. It is from sources like these--BBC, AFP, DPA, etc etc--that Europeans get almost all their news, including about America. If they report what Trump says word for word, and it makes him come across as an absolute ass, that is not fake, and it is certainly not the doing of CNN.
FakeNoose
(32,904 posts)The BBC news is actually an awesome news source even here in the US.
During the high-campaign days of last year, I would frequently turn on the BBC news which we get on our cable. BBC was reporting stuff about Trump that the US news sources weren't. I wish I could think of a specific example but right now I can't. Suffice it to say that the US news outlets weren't giving a "fair and balanced" reporting about Trump last year. Whatever they do this year doesn't make up for it either. They were all asleep on the job last year.
I used to get Deutschewelle on my cable too, but it's no longer offered. I changed my cable subscription so it's probably my fault. Most Americans don't realize how narrowly focused our news outlets area.
