(12,164 posts)It defies common sense. Why wouldn't fracturing rock structures deep in the earth cause earthquakes? Look at all that fracking going on. An who pays attention to that site over there where mega gallons of salty, sandy water is forced deep in the earth. Nah! that can't be it it's this fracking.
Fracking plays a part but is not the primary cause. Lots and lots of water is used in hydraulic fracturing. That water and sand is recovered and shipped off to Mr. Jones' well. He doesn't get paid royalties but better. Unless the tax code has changed he get paid for damages and pays no tax. Sweet huh? Unless you happen wake up to earthquakes where there used to be rare.
It pays to be fully informed or our arguments can be dismissed. Oh they get dismissed anyway.

Fact 1: Fracking is NOT causing most of the induced earthquakes. Wastewater disposal is the primary cause of the recent increase in earthquakes in the central United States.
