Dozens accuse massage therapists at large franchise of sexual misconduct

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/report-dozens-accuse-massage-therapists-large-franchise-sexual-misconduct-n824056

Dozens of people have accused massage therapists of sexual misconduct at the largest massage franchise in the United States, a report published Sunday in BuzzFeed alleged.

Citing lawsuits, police reports and other official documents, the news site said the company, Massage Envy, and its franchisees had mishandled or ignored many of more than 180 cases.

NBC News has not confirmed all of the allegations.

In a statement Sunday, Massage Envy — which has more than 1,100 franchises in 49 states, according to the company's website — said the incidents described in the report were "heartbreaking for us and for the franchisees that operate Massage Envy locations."

My husband gave me a years membership a couple of years ago. It was far too expensive so I have not continued it. At first I thought it would be like going to McDonald's, crappy and barely standard but it really was wonderful. I am sorry to see this, glad if it changes things but just sorry that anyone would be able to get a pass to work in this kind of situation where it would be so easy to be abused.

All I know from my experience is that they went out of their way to provide me with a female but the times she was gone and I was substituted with a male who was so careful not to expose or get close to anything that could be considered exposure or inappropriate that it was almost silly.

Today I feel a bit lucky.

**I realized that my comment did not quite state what I meant. About the franchises, if you read the article you can see how they moved an accused to another franchise rather than report and fire.
