How much loyalty do you feel towards your employer?

This will probably drop like a stone; but i'm curious - I don't really have any loyalty towards the place that I work other than exactly the amount they buy with my salary / benefits. I ask because I really don't have a loyalty to a company but a loyalty towards people i work with insofar as they earned it. That's not to say I would take advantage of them; I do believe in honesty. I just wouldn't break my back on their behalf (at least not anymore)

I give them what they pay for while I'm working on their projects. Then I move on. That's not loyalty. It's earning a living by producing something they need enough to pay me to produce.

I only accept clients who are honest in their businesses. So, it's not hard for me to provide them with the services I offer.

your perspective changes as you age/circumstances change. I have had a relationship with the same employer for almost 20 years. I started off at an introductory level with them and worked my way up to middle management, serving in that capacity for almost six years. I lived and breathed the business at that time of my life.

Then circumstances changed and my wife and I had to move. I continue to work for the same company remotely, from home. I earn less now doing so, but it's still a good living and provides me with many conveniences. I am loyal to the company in that I look out for their best interests but I no longer have to toil day and night, so that is more beneficial to me.

vs. the desire to keep my job, it security, the pay, the bennies and the retirements. Am I loyal to protect these things or loyal because the company can offer these things?

However, it changed names 7 times during that period. I was deeply loyal until company number 6. Since I retired it has changed once again, now called Nokia.

Have my job. I was a loyal employee never called off and spent much of my day getting them immunizations. Do to Walgreens threatened to take them over my position was eliminated. Haven’t had a job since March. I’m 60 years old and not going to work in fast food! They came in on a Tuesday and by Friday I was done after numerous years of hard work. Our store manager was a full blown Right wing nut or maybe I would of been used out on the floor. I have no loyalty to any Corporate Job and neither should anyone else because the majority of them don’t care!

I was working for a joke of a company in Cleveland called Zenith Systems.

You can fucking guess how much loyalty I have after 15 years of bullshit.

It's been two years now, I was given a slip that said "eligible for rehire" with a severance check of that weeks pay only.

I am still unemployed, and not happy about it. When you are in your 60's, it is pretty hard to find a job.

And they have been hiring new technicians.

Lack of work, yeah right.

Loyal to a large company.

They have been very good to me.

24 years with a local/regional company that was bought 5 years ago by a multi-national. I am happier after the buyout than before.

29 years with the same outfit. Unheard of these days.

I consider myself lucky because I know it is unusual.

It probably helps that the last five years have been in an expanding economy. It is easier to be happy on a winning team.

It probably also helps that the company is Canadian.

I had a fair bit of loyalty to my employer becasue they had loyalty to their employees.

Having heard from people who still work there after a change in ownership, that is no longer the case and employees are treated as disposable now.

Right now, I'm an at-home mom...I don't even know if I'm the employer or employee here! Both and neither, I guess. LOL.

...and they are a very employee centered company. They say "take care of your employees and your employees will take care of business" and they mean it.

Not saying I would take a bullet for them, but they've been generous with me and I return the favor by trying my best to advance the company interests.
