Walker calls for steep cuts to Wisconsin university system

Source: Fox News

First the unions, now the university system.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is calling for steep cuts to the University of Wisconsin System, while offering the network more freedom in exchange, in a controversial plan his office says is meant to provide more financial certainty.

The Republican governor, known for his dramatic battles against the public employee unions, moved to overhaul the university system at a time when he's also flirting with a potential presidential bid. Walker, after delivering a rousing speech over the weekend to a conservative summit in Iowa and forming a new political group, told Fox News on Tuesday he's "very interested" in a possible run.

But his university plan, which would cut funding by $300 million over two years, promises to keep him plenty occupied in Madison. The proposal would give more autonomy to the governor-appointed Board of Regents, which oversees the system's 26 campuses, on a wide range of issues, including raising tuition without Legislative approval starting in 2017.

I remember reading the nazi's went after university professors. This is kind of eerily reminiscent.

tax break will be glad to step up to the plate and make up for funding cuts.

They might even volunteer to make up some of the state budget deficit, too, after they finish all that hiring they do with the extra money.

Wisconsin citizens who voted for this guy got what they deserved.

We in California had to suffer under several Republican administrations before we wised up and re-elected Jerry Brown.

Seriously, I hope that the people of Wisconsin don't suffer too much, don't lose too much because they elected this guy.

Now wants to wreck UW education.
Failed to negotiate with unions while he was Milwaukee County Executive. First act as Governor, wrecked the unions.
Wanker is all about vengeance, and as with everything else he does, cheap and petty.

states are reducing funding for higher education. And then we have a huge reduction in lower education and in many cases the courts are involved because of the low funding of schools, Arizona, Kansas just being 2 of those.
The GOP hates an educated individual because they can make decisions, form opinions, read, write and even challenge the GOP on lack of process in DC. This is a continuing trend with the GOP. They are even banning certain studies in schools, or where possible change the teaching of history.

Ironic how the attitude of the GOP towards education parallels that of the plantation owners of the South before the civil war...

Don't educate the masses, keep everyone stupid so they don't organize to oppose your slaveholder oligarchy...

It seems to me that they have become what they were founded to oppose, but they've done the old Confederacy one better-- because the wage-slaves believe themselves to be free, when in a great many ways, they really are not.
