Kansas Bans Poor People From Spending Welfare On Cruise Ships

Source: huffingtonpost

Kansas welfare recipients will be unable to get more than $25 per day in benefits under a new law sent this week to Republican Gov. Sam Brownback's desk by the state legislature.

The bill also prohibits welfare recipients from spending their benefits at certain types of businesses, including liquor stores, fortune tellers, swimming pools and cruise ships.

"We're trying to make sure those benefits are used the way they were intended," state Rep. Michael O'Donnell (R) said, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal. "This is about prosperity. This is about having a great life."

that don't exist than things like religious freedom laws and restrictions on abortion. If we can't get rid of Republicans in state legislature, we can just give them a shiny ball to play with so can't do any damage.

Hello you brave republicans. Something important has come up in your district you need to take time to deal with. Turns out, unicorns are real. And they are pooping glitter all over state highways. Please take the necessary time to sit down and hash out a good deal to combat this menace.

Waiting in line at the cruise buffet while the person up front is using an EBT card. That was me. Sorry I took so long, the pin didn't go through.

EBT Don't leave home without it. Purchase cruises, cars, prostitutes, and homes all with one swoop. Maybe one day we will be able to buy politicians, but that is blocked right now.

More likely to find that than someone getting on a cruise ship in Kansas for $400!

$400 would buy a shitload of Alaskan king crab, so I guess it is all about choices.

Sounds more and more like a fallback to the old Reagan fiction of the 'welfare queen.' And the masses will buy it if they say it over and over and over...

I live in Erie County, NY, and here the max cash benefit is $320 a month for a single person (that is supposed to pay your rent and utilities which it doesn't), so I don't know what the hell they are even talking about. I imagine one gets more with children, but I doubt unless there are many children, the 25 bucks a day only is a goal already reached.

This is just a bullshit law with the sole intent of implying people get more help than is actually available. I bet people are believing it too.

Especially poor people from Kansas. While they're at it, why not ban them from using the debit card to make a down payment on a Bentley or chartering a Gulfstream jet to the Superbowl?

This is just a dehumanizing move to publicly shame people who are down on their luck. Denying them seafood or the loosely defined "steak" with food cards is further humiliation.

Start voting Kansas!

I thoroughly expect a red state to write a law that says welfare money can't be spent in any establishment that offers any form of gambling, including the lottery. And then they'll work their ass off to make damn good and sure every grocery store, convenience store, Walmart and Target sells lottery tickets.

Who knew that welfare recipients got enough money to pay for cruises... swimming pools, booze, fortune tellers... and "certain types of businesses"? Unless they're willing to go without electricity, rent, heat, gas, food... and pretty much all of the necessities?

Fucking asshole republicans.

"This is about prosperity. This is about having a great life." Sure, fuckhead there can say that because he earns a very nice living through tax payer dollars... paid for by a lot of these same welfare recipients, as well. He can spend his money on whatever the fuck he wants. Does he deserve it? do any of these assholes?

Let's multiply the amount of every welfare recipient's check by ten. Then let's take vomit-induciding-holier-than-thou-ugly-stupid-fucksticks like O'Donnell and pay them minimum wage - which they will NOT be able to use for swimming pools, fortune tellers, cruise ships, or liquor stores.

Holy fuck I hate politicians.... almost all of them.

for the last two months , for reasons far too many to go into here and they are still asking for various documents to justify me receiving any assistance. If I do get approval my best estimate would be $ 30 a month. Let me say it is NOT easy and certainly not enough for steak and lobster. The $25 limit is just a way to give the banks a way to skim some money off the poor again with fees. Another reason not to elect a wall street / banister friendly president.
