U.S. Could Recommend Taking Cuba Off State Terrorism List In Days: Official
Source: Reuters
Reuters) - The U.S. State Department could recommend within a few days that Cuba be removed from its list of countries accused of sponsoring terrorism, a U.S. official said on Tuesday, a major move toward rapprochement ahead of a hemispheric summit this week.
President Barack Obama ordered the review after announcing a diplomatic breakthrough with Havana on Dec. 17, and he has vowed to act quickly once he receives the State Department's recommendation.
Obama leaves on Wednesday for a trip to Jamaica and then to Panama, where he will participate in the April 10-11 Summit of the Americas and come face-to-face with Cuban President Raul Castro.
A U.S. official close to matter said the State Department could send its conclusions to Obama as soon as the next day or two calling for the communist-ruled island to be taken off the list.

(32,106 posts)They intervened in the Congo in the 60s. They went into Boliva, Eritrea (where they fought for one side then the other), the Yon Kippur war on the Arab side, they fought in the Ogaden War between Somalia and Ethiopia, Angola, the South African border war that you mentioned, Grenada, El Salvador, and Nicaragua
Quite an effort for a country that lives in poverty.

Luis Carriles Posada not only worked for the CIA, but also involved in Iran-Contra, and an extended life as a terrorist against the people of Cuba, yet he is protected, sheltered from mass murder charges in the U.S.
Cuba, a "terrorist" state? Not exactly, considering they've been on the RECEIVING end of decades of acts of terrorism from the "exile" community right here in the U.S., including bombs in hotels, discos, restaurants, kidnappings and murders of Cubans from political enemies to simple fishermen unlucky enough to attract the attention of "exiles" in Cuba to spread terror. They've also burned their fields, killed livestock, and hired poor people of Central America to deliver and plant bombs in public areas to drive away tourism.
