Arizona sheriff's office mishandling of rape case results in $3.5m settlement
Source: Associated Press
Officials agreed to pay $3.5m to settle a lawsuit that alleged metro Phoenixs sheriff botched the investigation into the rape of a 13-year-old girl and failed to arrest the suspect who then went on to sexually attack her again.
The girls rape case was among more than 400 sex-crime cases that were inadequately investigated or not looked into at all by Maricopa County sheriff Joe Arpaios office during a three-year period ending in 2007.
Sheriffs spokeswoman Lisa Allen says Arpaios office agrees with the decision to resolve the lawsuit.
The botched investigations served as an embarrassment for Arpaio, who promotes himself as Americas toughest sheriff.

(53,661 posts)Arizona specializes in supporting questionable characters in responsible positions. Sometimes the costs are direct, and the poor people, getting poorer all the time, have to pay the bill. Other times, the costs are indirect, as in enormous defense expenditures supported by our representatives in Congress. We still pay. I'm getting out of here as soon as possible.

(9,469 posts)there was DNA evidence, but they closed the case before the DNA results came back. Apparently Sheriff Joe closes a lot of cases under what is called "special circumstances". One of the ways he pads his stats. There are many instances similar to this.

(21,819 posts)I wish I was making this up. Sheriff Joe sent his investigators to Hawaii to search for evidence that Obama was not a US citizen. He spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on this snipe hunt by diverting money from criminal investigations (especially rapes).
I know this case pre-dates the Obama investigation, but it illustrates his priorities.

(51,285 posts)and my question is then:
If Ted Cruz is a "naturalized citizen" and eligible to run for President because his mother was a US citizen -
how is that any different from Obama's mother being a US citizen?
(and, yes, I know he was born in Hawaii)
but ... not one of these stupid peeps even hear their own hypocrisy
