In policy change, Apple no longer bars felons for construction jobs

Source: San Francisco Chronicle

Apple said Thursday it will drop a policy that prohibits construction workers with past felony convictions from building its new campus in Cupertino.

Construction workers who were once prohibited from working on the campus for felony convictions within the last seven years will now be evaluated on a case by case basis, Apple said in a statement.

The number of men of color with criminal records is above average and these men need jobs. I really hope that a lot of other companies follow suit.

The easier it is for an ex-con to get a job, the less likely he is to revert to a life of crime. Well known and documented.

And letting an ex-con work on a construction site is about as low risk as it gets.

I recently heard someone talking about the horrible problem that felons face when they try to find work, and how that affects recidivism rate. So tragic
