Walker says he expects to meet with Netanyahu in Israel

Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says he “absolutely” expects to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his first visit to Israel next month.

Walker, a Republican, told The Associated Press in an interview ahead of his departure on a European trade mission that the Netanyahu meeting in mid-May is not yet confirmed, but that it’s his “hope and expectation” it will happen.

A spokeswoman for Walker’s political group, Our American Revival, did not immediately confirm Friday whether the meeting has been set up.

Walker originally planned for his Israel trip to be a taxpayer-funded trade mission, but he said in an interview Thursday that his political arm is now paying for it because the “overwhelming majority” of those who wanted to meet with him in Israel had a political interest.

These right wingers have aligned forces to gain office in their respective countries. When did this become acceptable behavior?

Clearly the billionaires who back Walker aren't funding him because of his great intellect or leadership potential. They all know he's a dufus. They back him because he will do anything they want in exchange for moving him ahead politically.

I have no doubt he would sell out the best interests of the United States to billionaires and even Israel if it could get him into the White House. Just look how he sold out the people of Wisconsin to get him to where he is now.

Sadly, spineless democrats are not spinning this as letting Israel meddle in our internal affairs.

The tea party crowd may hate Obama but they won't let the jewish state control American politics either.

Why are these freaking traitorous idiot neocons putting the wellbeing of Netanyahoo over the well being of the US? It's not even Israel they are sucking off, it's little murderer who's personally getting a dick sucking from each and every one of the Repug leadership. I guess WAR is really their end-all be-all and the big war's is being promoted and pushed by the little murderer, so he's their guy?

See American liberal Jews don't hate Bibi, in fact many like him and the republicans know this, if they can peel away enough Jewish voters from voting party lines they will win big time in the next general election.

Further, liberal American Jews are deeply concerned about the huge rise in Antisemitism around the world and are discouraged by the ho hum attitude coming from the European left.

If the democratic party loses the Jewish vote, liberal candidates are basically fucked.

Um, do you have a source for this? I'm a progressive Jew (not liberal as I'm a socialist), and many friends I've spoken with, both liberal and progressive can't stand Bibi.

A new Gallup poll shows a continuing shift in the political affiliation among American Jews, with more and more of this voting bloc leaning Republican.

While they leaned Democratic 71-22 in 2008, they now favor the blue team 61-29 after a slow but significant shift.

Yes, the movement toward Republicans mirrors an overall national shift away from Democrats, but among American Jews it's more pronounced. Democrats have seen a 10-point drop-off among Jews since 2008, and nationally a seven-point drop in Democratic party identification, according to Gallup.

-snip-

President Obama's difficult relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not helped Democrats. A recent poll by a left-leaning group showed that among Jewish voters, Netanyahu has a higher favorability rating than Obama — 53 percent to 48 percent. This summer, tensions ran especially high as the Israeli government launched a military action in Gaza, with the Obama administration calling for a series of humanitarian cease-fires.

Are Democrats Losing the Jews?

snip

"The importance of the Jews isn't their votes," said Benjamin Ginsberg, a professor of political science at Johns Hopkins University. "They account for a huge share of the activist base of the Democratic Party and account for much of the money available to Democratic candidates. If you are a Republican strategist, it seems fairly obviously that if you can shift Jewish support even a little bit away from the Democrats, it makes the Democratic Party less competitive."

Many observant Jews on the left that I talk to are very concerned about the hostility towards Israel they see coming from the left.

All this ridiculous hyperbole about "racist zionists" "apartheid Israel", "genocide against the Palestinians" is most definitely having an effect, it's causing Jews to leave the Democratic party.

Maybe that's the goal of the anti-Israel crowd, I don't know.

Given that you refer to the occupied West Bank as "Judea and Samaria" there is some doubt as to how plugged in to liberal sentiment you are.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1134&pid=99617

And here you are telling us that Likud speaks for liberal American Jews.

The plainly observable fact is that Jewish public opinion moves in much the same manner as it does for the rest of the population.

In other words, not due to Israel, or people saying mean things about Israel's government, but because of the things that affect everyone else--the economy, etc.

13. Walker says he's been talking to all kinds of Middle East "allies" lately
Fri Apr 10, 2015, 03:13 PM
Apr 2015

His "cram sessions" and flash cards and 12th grade diploma have made him into a regular Middle East policy wonk.

I think of the audacity (of Obama) to be talking about schooling anyone when it comes to foreign policy, and it's not just about Israel and it's not just about nuclear weapons. I've talked of late to a number of our allies in the Arab nations, in the Gulf states in the Middle East, who are frustrated, as well, because they don't much like the idea of Iran getting this sort of special treatment from the United States when they feel they're a real threat not just to Israel but to their own interests in the Middle East...

...I mean, you look at the mess with the Houthis coming into Yemen and what that means to the Saudis, the United Arab Emirates, certainly to their other allies throughout the region, like Jordan and Egypt. They have real concerns. They are frustrated that this administration even began talks with the premise of enriching uranium, something that very much concerned them.

And at the same time, they're backing the very Shiite militias that are going into places like Yemen right now, a real threat not only to Saudi Arabia but to all peace loving people in the Middle East and around the world.

That was a lot to memorize. I can see why he announced he will not answer any foreign policy questions on his campaign/trade mission trip to Europe. If a reporter asked him something off script Walker would be screwed.
