Local Consulate Health Care workers go on strike

NORTH FORT MYERS - About half the staff of Consulate Health Care in North Fort Myers participated in a strike over wages and insurance Monday morning outside the facility.

The employees are demanding the same contract 17 other Consulate locations have in the state that includes a higher wage and more affordable health insurance premiums.

"What do we want? A contract! When do we want it? Now!" they chanted along Pondella Road.

The caregivers tell us they are concerned that they can't take care of themselves -- despite caring for their patients every day.
