North Carolina college employee shot dead

(CNN)A gunman walked into a building on the campus of Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, North Carolina, on Monday and shot the school's print shop operator, killing him, authorities said.

The school was placed on lockdown, and the gunman remains at large. All buildings have been cleared, Maj. Tom Effler of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said.

"This is not a random situation. It is an isolated situation," he said.

The victim, Ron Lane, was a longtime employee. The suspected gunman, identified by law enforcement as 20-year-old Kenneth Morgan Stancil III, worked at one time for the victim and is a former student at the school.

The victim of a campus shooting in Goldsboro, N.C., on Monday is a gay man, and the suspected shooter might have white supremacist leanings.

The campus of Wayne Community College was placed on lockdown Monday after the shooting death of Ron Lane, a longtime employee of the college.

Police are currently searching for Kenneth Morgan Stancil III, who they say is the primary suspect in the murder. Stancil, 20, is a white male, 5’11” and bald. He has a tattoo over his left eye. He was armed with a rifle and was wearing a blue jacket and light pants at the time of the shooting.

Police have said they do not believe the shooting was random.

Stancil was a student and had a work-study position in the print shop, managed by Lane, an 18-year employee of the college. News station WNCN reports that Lane recently fired Stancil, according to a relative of Lane.
