Indiana lawmakers reject extending civil rights protections

Source: Associated Press

Republicans in the Indiana House have turned aside an attempt to extend protections for gays and lesbians under the state’s non-discrimination laws in response to the uproar over the new religious objections law.

The proposal called for adding sexual orientation and gender identity to the Indiana civil rights law covering education, employment and housing.

Republican leaders say there isn’t enough time left in the legislative session to tackle such a policy change, and GOP members backed a ruling Tuesday that the proposal didn’t meet House rules for consideration.

Jesus taught love, respect and acceptance. He would have welcomed all people to his table.

This is bullshit!

These bagger folks never miss the opportunity to take a shotgun to their own feet.

I have no idea who they think they are appealing to. Most of the corporations and most of the folks shunning Indiana for the nonsense of a couple weeks ago aren't going to get more tolerant of Indiana because of this kind of idiocy.

I hate that we need a test case for bigotry, but as long as Indiana is showing its ass, they will keep losing business. And as long as that happens, other states will take notice. There are several more states where "religious freedom" laws are being debated. You can bet they're looking at Indiana and seeing what a freaking mess they've made of it.

The state government has been taken over by the Tea Party, the Methodist Church, and Rush Limbaugh. And no end in sight as the Indiana Democratic Party is woefully weak.
