Obama set to utter term 'climate change' in Florida on Earth Day trip

Source: Guardian

- State made headlines for reported rule against using the phrase
- President says climate change ‘can no longer be denied – or ignored’
- Florida banned state workers from using term ‘climate change’ – report

Announcing an Earth Day trip to Florida on Saturday, President Barack Obama used his weekly address to say “climate change can no longer be denied – or ignored”.

Attitudes to climate change among Republicans and in Florida recently made national news, after it was reported that the state’s Department of Environmental Protection had issued an unwritten policy to forbid state workers from using the term.

“We were instructed by our regional administrator that we were no longer allowed to use the terms ‘global warming’ or ‘climate change’ or even ‘sea-level rise’,” a former DEP employee was quoted as saying in a report by the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting. “Sea-level rise was to be referred to as ‘nuisance flooding’.”

Obama will visit the Florida Everglades on Earth Day — to talk about climate change
By Chris Mooney April 18 at 6:20 AM

Saturday morning, President Obama gave a speech on climate change — to preview a bigger speech on climate change.

In the President’s weekly Saturday morning address, he declared that he’s headed to the Florida Everglades Wednesday — Earth Day — to “talk about the way that climate change threatens our economy.”

“The Everglades is one of the most special places in our country,” the president said. “But it’s also one of the most fragile. Rising sea levels are putting a national treasure — and an economic engine for the South Florida tourism industry — at risk.”

“Climate change can no longer be denied — or ignored,” said Obama.

They keep coming out of the woodwork... like termites... and when I hear 'big tent of the Republican Party' I always picture a termite-infested house being tented.

To no avail -- they, like cockroaches, are replicating under garbage piles and in sewers around the country.

He opened the east oast and arctic to drilling. Stuff even Bush couldn't do. He supports fracking and approved the southern leg of XL Keystone Pipeline. He undermined global warming agreements.

But the high tide - and flooding of all types, really - recedes whereas "sea-level rise" will be around for at least several centuries so by definition this is not flooding.
