A tentative agreement was reached between the United Steelworkers (USW) labor union and the management of BP plc (ADR) (NYSE:BP) on Wednesday to end the months-long strike at the oil companys refinery in Whiting, Indiana.
The tentative agreement would need to be ratified by USW members. According to the President of the Local USW 7-1, Dave Danko, the ratification voting process can begin as early as next week.
A statement released by BP read: The parties have reached a tentative agreement and are in the process of finalizing the settlement package. The companys management further announced that they are pleased to have the agreement in place for Whitings workers. We will work towards getting our colleagues back to work as soon as possible, said Scott Dean, BPs spokesperson.
