Hastert’s Name Removed by Alma Mater
Source: NY Times
The alma mater of J. Dennis Hastert, the former speaker of the House of Representatives, announced on Sunday that it had scrubbed his name from the schools public policy center, after his indictment on charges that he lied to the F.B.I. about financial transactions he made to cover up past sexual misconduct.
Wheaton College, the Christian liberal arts school in Illinois where Mr. Hastert graduated in 1964 with a bachelors degree in economics, made the decision after his federal indictment on Thursday.
Prosecutors and investigators said Mr. Hastert, 73, made cash withdrawals from banks in a way that was designed to hide that he was paying $3.5 million to conceal the misconduct, according to the indictment. Officials familiar with the case said he was paying a former student to keep quiet about sexual abuse, which went back decades to Mr. Hasterts time as a high school teacher and wrestling coach in Yorkville, Ill.
In light of the charges and allegations that have emerged, the college has redesignated the center as the Wheaton College Center for Economics, Government and Public Policy at this time, the school said in a news release that was updated on Sunday. The center had been called the J. Dennis Hastert Center for Economics, Government and Public Policy.

(5,902 posts)Keep in mind he's the namesake for the infamous -and absolutely unconstitutional- Hastert Rule, which lets the Speaker block any and all legislation that has majority support in the House as long as the majority of the GOP caucus itself is against it.
Gridlock in Washington has a name, and that's Hastert the Bastard.

I know about the Hastert rule, but I'm a late learner. If only I knew what I know now, then. And English syntax.
