Ellen Pao planning appeal in Kleiner Perkins loss

SAN FRANCISCO -- Ellen Pao, the former venture capitalist who lost a high-stakes sex-discrimination case against prestigious firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, is preparing to appeal.
Pao on Monday filed documents with San Francisco Superior Court signaling she would appeal a jury's decision in March that ruled against four claims that she had been discriminated and retaliated against during her seven-year career at Kleiner Perkins. The document -- filed just six days before her chance to appeal expires -- paves the way for Pao to challenge, for the second time, her former employer, a wealthy and powerful venture firm. Pao has 40 days to file her argument for the appeal.
Pao's attorney, Alan Exelrod, did not immediately return calls for comment Monday evening.
Kleiner spokeswoman Christina Lee said in a statement: "We remain committed to gender diversity in the workplace and believe that women in technology would be best served by focusing on this issue outside of continued litigation."
