Pope creates tribunal to hear bishop child abuse cases

Source: AP

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis has created a new Vatican tribunal section to hear cases of bishops who fail to protect children from sexually abusive priests.

The move marks the biggest step yet the Vatican has taken to hold bishops accountable. No bishop has ever been forcibly removed for covering up for guilty clergy, although in April, Francis accepted the resignation of a U.S. bishop who had been convicted of failing to report a suspected child abuser.

The Vatican said Wednesday that Francis had approved proposals made by his sexual abuse advisory board. They create a mechanism by which the Vatican can examine complaints of abuse of office by bishops and adjudicate them. It calls for the creation of a special judicial section inside the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Unless there is some real push a person almost has to think that there will be a cover up for the most part.

Ran into a long lost friend the other day. We went to HS together at a Catholic school nearly 50 years ago. Turns out he was molested by a priest as was I.

How the conversation turned to this I don't know, but he broke down and cried it was still so painful for him. His molester is now a bishop with many lawsuits against him. I doubt one thing will happen to that bishop or any other.

And you, too, if your molester is still alive.

I'm so sorry this happened to you and so many others.

or we may have both been part of the same one and never knew it.
He was really deeply hurt and angered. It affected his whole life, including attempting suicide.

I was just mad - not hurt etc. More than anything I was hurt by my parents reaction. When I started to tell them they accused me of making up stories about priests. Pretty much put up a barrier between us for the rest of their lives.

I know a young woman who was molested by her father. First her mother didn't believe her; then, after the divorce, she told her to forget about it. The mother has never accepted the damage she did by not believing her child. It has been devastating and I don't see how that relationship will ever heal. Not unless the mother makes a 180 degree turn, which I don't see happening.

3. It's the Duggar Method, they do it all in house, no outside authorities involved.

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith did in fact invite Josh Duggar's employers, the Family Research Council, to their international anti gay conference in Rome in November. Tony Perkins said the atmosphere was euphoric, NOM sent Maggie Gallagher, the Heritage Foundation was there, Rick Warren of course and Pope Francis was the key note speaker.....

4. Well, he's got Bernard "Lardarse" Law living in princely splendor right on his doorstep

He could start right there. Or at least send Law back to the US to face prosecution. I'm counting on Francis the Fraud to do neither.

in regards to those in the USA, this may result in some much needed house cleaning. I know in MN. the Bishop has been obstinate at calls to step down. This provides a way to get at them.
