NOPD officer shot dead while transporting a suspect near North Claiborne Avenue

A manhunt continued Saturday afternoon for the fugitive accused of fatally shooting a veteran New Orleans police officer, a brazen killing that stunned the city and prompted an intense dragnet in which law enforcement officials dressed in SWAT gear went door-to-door in search of the gunman.
The officer, Daryle Holloway, a 22-year veteran of the New Orleans Police Department, had been driving a suspect to central lockup when the would-be inmate managed to fatally shoot Holloway and break free from custody, the authorities said. Holloway, 45, was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after 9 a.m.
The authorities were searching for 33-year-old Travis Boys, a New Orleans man with a lengthy criminal history who most recently had been arrested on a count of aggravated assault.
He will not get away with this, New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison told reporters. Justice will be served.

(6,241 posts)Guy doesn't seem to want to be in jail, and he's not willing to take the "don't commit crimes" path that the rest of us do.
But no cop is going to put his life at risk to arrest him. I doubt he'll live to see the inside of a jail.
