Mississippi Guv Tears Into SCOTUS For Upholding 'Socialist' Obamacare

Source: TPM

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant (R) on Thursday railed against President Obama and the Supreme Court after the justices upheld the subsidies provided through the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

"Today’s decision does not change the fact that Obamacare is a socialist takeover of health care forced down the throats of the American people without proper review, and it does not slow the massive and unprecedented transfer of wealth that is at the heart of the subsidy system," Bryant said in a statement.

"Make no mistake—Obamacare is not about helping those in need or improving health care delivery," he continued. "It is about destabilizing our health care system, ceding more control to centralized government and replacing individual liberty with government dependence."

Bryant mentioned that Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the liberal justices again to uphold a portion of Obamacare.

Giving people healthcare rights is a sin and travesty. Allowing the top 1% to buy elections with little/no restraints is a good thing.

What a bizzzarro world these Repugs inhabit where money is everything and the people have no rights but to kill other folks.

the opposite of what a socialist healthcare program would look like.

However, it is a thousand fold better than having nothing, and what is puzzling is the media phrases healthcare as a liberal issue. That says volumes about conservatives

Here is the actual opinion:

http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/14pdf/14-114_qol1.pdf

ROBERTS, C. J., delivered the opinion of the Court, in which

KENNEDY, GINSBURG, BREYER, SOTOMAYOR, and KAGAN, JJ., joined.

SCALIA,J., filed a dissenting opinion, in which THOMAS and ALITO, JJ., joined.

Under the rules of the Supreme Court, when the Chief Justice is with the Majority he either writes the opinion or decides who is to write it. If the chief justice is in the Minority, the most senior Justice writes the opinion. In the past when we had a Conservative Chief Justice he would vote with the liberals so he could write the opinion and thus minimize its effect (Burger was accused of this extensively). While Roberts was in the five vote majority in the previous Obama care vote, here is vote was NOT needed, thus he could have voted with the minority and leave Kennedy write the majority opinion. I suspect he did NOT want Kennedy to write the opinion and shifted side to prevent that.

Just a comment on 6-3 votes, when the Chief Justice is the person shifting his vote.
