Do they have hand-carved wooden legs from a sturdy oak tree, and carry muskets?

This old symbol of rebellion against the US government, the confederate "battle flag", represented those that wanted to keep slavery. That's what the war was essentially about. It should no more be honored than any other flag of such ill repute.

Rove made the whole thing about the battle flag. W read his script. McCain, this was the point where he became a stooge, said the flag should be there. The day after he lost the primary McCain tried to reverse the mouthwords he had made but it was over at that point.

where he contacted South Carolinians to let them know that John McCain fathered a black child.

That also helped put Bush over the top.

Rove knew how to appeal to racists in South Carolina.

but why there has to be so much paper pushing and bureaucratic mumbo jumbo just to take a treasonous flag down is beyond me.

Carlin "I keep the symbol to the symbol minded" all of the flags and stuff is meaningless to me but considering why they want to fly it is reflective of the support for racism so they certainly should take it down in the sense of not being a racist. Also it is weird to fly a flag of a country that no longer exists so they should go ahead and take it down.
