Ben Carson’s money haul: $10.5 million

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson is on track to raise $10.5 million during his first quarter as a candidate, a senior adviser said Wednesday.
Carson senior adviser Mike Murray added that the Republicans money haul included 210,000 contributions with an average gift of $50. We obviously set some goals internally. Weve exceeded those goals, Murray said.

(42,840 posts)not to exceed the salary of the office being sought (in this case, I think its $400,000) plus travel, meals, hotels etc that are "legitimate" campaign expenses.

(32,163 posts)But I think there is this implication that candidates are running around using campaigns as some sort of lotto win when they drop out. They have to either freeze the money for the future, or give it to other campaigns within certain limits or to charities.

(802 posts)And the campaign can pay the spouse, teenage+ kids, aunts, uncles huge salaries for "management", "office duties"; "office IT maintenance".... Atkins of "legitimate rape" took home a cool $30 million by naming his son his campaign manager.
