Senate blocks progress on highway bill
Source: The Hill
The Senate failed to move forward with legislation authorizing highway funding for six years after Democrats objected that they had yet to see the bills details.
In a 41-56 vote, the Senate voted against proceeding to a bill that will be used as a vehicle for the six-year highway deal brokered by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.). Sixty votes were needed to move forward.
Democrats werent alone in voicing opposition. Several Republicans, including Sens. Mike Lee (Utah), Ted Cruz (Texas), Richard Shelby (Ala.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.), also voted against the procedural motion.
(snip)
Boxer said that while she agreed with Reid that Democrats need a chance to read the bill, she said that "I would submit that this isn't the first time we've done a highway bill."

(168 posts)Boxer approved of using Social Security monies to help pay for highway bill. Monies saved in Social Security by potentially not allowing so called "Fugitives" to receive Social Security were used to help fund the highway bill instead of going back into Social Security. Now the Republicans will run ads against Democrats saying they helped to destroy Social Security. Maybe the rest of the Democrats will wake up.

(24,745 posts)but I don't understand how entitlements are suppose to be used to pay for a highways.
Why, Medicare with over head costs of only 4% are suppose to be used to fund other programs,
like bombs, what am I exactly missing from this.
It like take, take, take, and then whine they are failures and running short of funds and need to be privatized.
Why is that they can take these "vacations" or just before they take these "vacations" that there is always this procedure to ram a bill through before anyone, let's say democrats can read what's actually in there------------and trust us--------------no, let me see what's in there now, that is your job description, not let me see after the fact, where some right wing lobbyists sitting in your right wing office getting legislation from ALEC on how to attack the entitlements through back door shenanigans
