Early Wisconsin Exit Poll Data Down To The Wire
Early exit poll data in the Wisconsin recall suggests a tight contest, with the polls still open for more than three hours in the race between Republican Gov. Scott Walker and Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.
ABC News reports on the closet numbers:
Barrett lost to Walker when the two faced off in 2010. One possible boost for Barrett this year comes from union voters: Nearly a third of voters in preliminary exit poll results say theyre from union households, up from 26 percent two years ago. And slightly more than half say they have a favorable impression of public employee unions; restrictions on such unions that were backed by Walker led to the recall.
But voters in these preliminary results divide almost exactly evenly on Walkers handling of those unions, with high levels of strong sentiment on both sides.
Also among recall voters, President Obama has 51 percent support against Mitt Romneys 45 percent, suggesting that the state could lean Democratic in November regardless of the result tonight.

(34,857 posts)It makes little sense, of course, but in a Democratic-leaning state, for a Republican to win, it takes a great deal of independent support to do so and that's where Walker might be able to edge out Barrett. We'll see.
