Nancy Pelosi: Health law represents 'life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness'

Source: Politico

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday defended the health care reform law, tying it to the promises written in the Declaration of Independence.

The Affordable Care Act is “about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for the American people,” Pelosi told reporters on Capitol Hill. She said it “unlocks” them from a job to pursue happiness without the threat of losing their health insurance.

Pelosi blamed the health care reform law’s poor public support on opponents who have misrepresented the legislation.

“I’m very proud of the Affordable Care Act. I think the understanding of it has been jeopardized by misrepresentations that have been out there relentlessly,” she told reporters when asked about Thursday’s CBS/New York Times poll.

or atleast not yet though its a step in the right direction, when we have a healthcare law that provides equal healthcare regardless of your income then we will have such a law.

It does not matter how good or bad your job is, or how much or how little you get paid. You are covered, no questions ask. The first question from the person with the clip board is not, "What is your credit card number?" Nope, you show them your government issued health card, that basically says your are a Canadian and the rest is taken care of. No fuss, no muss. And no budget busting surprise bills months later, either.

Im currently trying to navigate the nightmare of our "health" system right now, as my wife was diagnosed with a mass on her intestine.

Its a fucking mess, especially when she didnt make enough to afford insurance.

How many people cannot pursue their dreams of starting a business, changing to a job that really uses their talents, but are locked into unhealthy, abusive work environments where they are afraid to leave and pursue what they are best at doing? What their experience and brains work the best at? Much too many.

Thanks, Nancy, looking forward to seeing you as Speaker again.

..........I cringe when I consider the inovations that are being surpressed because of blind obedience to the Prophet of all Profits- Capitalistic Greed..after living 20 yrs within a stones throw of a major medical university, I have witnessed the death of an elderly man within 30 ft of the front door after being turned away, as well as many being turned away because of lack of funds.....After the REPUBLICANS SENATE LEADER FRISK of the HCA family owned hospital chain was allowed to retain his LEADERSHIP position upon his families HCA 1 BILLION dollar fine, I became commited to socialized healthcare.......the Supreme Court will begin whittling away at the provisions soon enough.....after Citizens United their intentions are clear.....Progressives will recieve nothing from DC except grief.......keep the spirit of Life, Liberty, and Happiness at the local levels for permanent to change to occur......
