Romney Says America Doesnt Need More Fireman, More Policemen, More Teachers
By Travis Waldron on Jun 8, 2012 at 4:39 pm
The last three years are the worst on record for public sector job loss, and the 700,000 government jobs that no longer exist remain a large drag on the American economy.
Today, New Jersey Gov. and Mitt Romney campaign surrogate Chris Christie (R) said that those losses meant the country was moving in the right direction, and Romney himself backed that statement up later, criticizing President Obama for calling for the hiring of more teachers, firefighters, and police officers, the Washington Posts Greg Sargent reports. From CNNs report of the Romney event:
Romney said of Obama, he wants another stimulus, he wants to hire more government workers. He says we need more fireman, more policeman, more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. Its time for us to cut back on government and help the American people.

(135,425 posts)And when his house burns down because his car elevator shorted out or something, no problem if the fire department fails to show?
He probably has enough money in all of his blind trusts to pay top dollar to educate all of his kids, all of his kids' kids...and that would be even if they had four or five wives squirreled away, each with five or ten kids, in Mexico or Canada or what-have-you...not that they do, necessarily...but hey, it could happen! Of course, those kids of his are pretty shallow, as is he, so I don't know if he's a good judge of what constitutes an adequate education...!

The problem is that roughly one half of the voting public firmly believes that they are one lottery ticket away from joining in the Good Times.

(135,425 posts)elevator garage door after disabling the alarm and picking the lock, and RMoney is upstairs looking at a new painting of his wife's latest horse?
Surely, in that situation, he'd have time to punch out 911--or command 'Jeeves' to do it for him.
RMoney isn't gonna get jacked on a streetcorner--that guy barely walks two feet in public. The only forward motion he's likely to get is on a private track, a treadmill, or other "secluded" opportunities where robbers don't normally mingle.
Great post.

(31,849 posts)romney is hoping that he won't need the police ... he's counting on a couple rings of Secret Service Agents to protect him.
Oh ... wait, aren't the Secret Service some of those government workers?
On a related note, why can't the right see the irony of their candidates calling for smaller government, while spending millions to get a government job?

(5,106 posts)We could save a lot by cutting the Secret Service. They guard a lot more government officials than just the President, or so I understand. On your "related note," I was just thinking that all those campaign contributions billionaires are happy to shell out: why begrudge those same amounts in taxes?

Who could imagine billionaires stealing from kids, saying 'What's in it for me?" But there they are, consistently.

This is where the NRA comes in. Guns in every home. Protect thyself and your family. House catch fire, here's hoping you have paid your water bill and heres hoping that thy Christians neighbors like you. Teach your own damn kids at home unless like Mittens, you can afford school.
I checked the internet CNN and MSNBC news, nada, nothing. Plently on Pres O quote.
Coming from a family of police, fire fighters and teachers, the hatred for them as gone to far. We are fighting back.

It is the only way they will learn.

What these types really are saying is they want large herds of BainCo Mercenaries who are paid 20% less, but, are 20% more expensive. The difference going into the pockets of private individuals and as religious tithes.

Obviously we can have too many teachers and cops and firefighters. But we're a ways away from that.
Better than paying people to live unproductive lives on federal assistance.

(7,413 posts)We have cops out the wazoo here between city, county and state. Firemen aren't stretched all that thin either. The war on drugs wastes billions and probably accounts for 1 million law enforcement positions on the books now, half of those could easily be reassigned or eliminated just by legalizing marijuana.
We always need more teachers though, there's never enough.
