Fox Is Considered Most Uncivil Network: Study

Weber Shandwick, Powell Tate and KRC Research polled 1,000 people in April for their annual "Civility In America" study. Thirty-five percent of participants said that Fox News is "uncivil," while 53% described it as "civil."

CNN and MSNBC fared slightly better. Thirty-one percent considered MSNBC "uncivil" and 49% "civil." Thirty-one percent of respondents thought CNN was "uncivil," and 53% "civil." PBS was considered most civil of the networks.

The results did not bode well for news outlets overall. "A considerable 62% called out the media as uncivil in this year’s survey," the study reported. "While this is considerably lower than last year’s incivility rating of 74%, it ranks among the top five most uncivil aspects of American life."

A whopping majority of people (82%) also believe that the media is more interested in controversy than facts, and 55% of respondents said that they were tuning out of "news coverage and reporting" due to incivility.

I don't know a lot of people who watch Fox thinking this is the best news source.
They LOVE the Obama bashing, but thats all fox does, but not news.

And the Romans loved their gladiatorial games.

it's the meanness, the savagery, and the incivility that attracts people.

Hell, people still watch Reality TV, which is nothing but a genre dedicated to tearing people down in front of millions of viewers.

His guests are quite uncivil, but people love the cat fights between the women. Personally, I think a lot of it is staged, but it is entertaining.

Fox News is the "reality tv" of news. Like Jersey Housewives or Survivor, "controversy" sells, "civility" costs rating points. "Civility" is not a goal.

A Fox panel discussion consists of a few people with views ranging from "the right" all the way to "the very, very far right". Then, they all talk at the same time so nobody can hear anything that's being said. Excellent entertainment, if not exactly informative.

Fox News is probably very proud of the "least civil" award. It'll be hanging on their wall.

53% find Fox civil. I think this poll shows that all of these networks appear to be considered about the same and I would agree.

If that many think fox is civil, what difference does the comparisons make? This poll does not make or break the case for fox, or any other network.

If the percentage is greater, then that means that that carries the day.

IOW, 53% said it was civil--therefore, that's the majority opinion.

The article title should say "over 1/3 of people polled said fux was uncivil". That's more the truth than alluding to that being the majority opinion of this poll.

What a fucking stupid question to ask. Yeah, the lack of civility is the main problem. *That's* what's important.

We are urged to focus on the lack of "civility," while our media has become a wasteland of news-free propaganda and infotainment.
