Poll: More blame Bush than Obama
Source: Politico
Americans continue to place more blame for the countrys ongoing economic problems on former President George W. Bush than on President Barack Obama, a new survey shows.
Though Bush has been out of office for nearly three and a half years, 68 percent blame him a great deal or moderate amount for the nations economic woes, according to a Gallup poll released Thursday. Meanwhile, 52 percent of Americans believe the same about Obama.
In fact, 49 percent of Republicans said Bush was greatly or moderately responsible for Americas economic woes, compared to 51 percent who said he wasnt. On the other hand, 19 percent of Democrats blame Obama for the current distress, while 81 percent say he is not much or not at all responsible.
Obamas share of the blame has been relatively steady over the past three years: since 2010, between 48 percent and 53 percent of Americans have blamed him for the economic problems facing the United States.
Further, the percentage of those who blame Bush for current economic problems dropped from 80 percent in July 2009 to around 70 percent in August 2010 - and the figure has been relatively stable ever since.

The Gallup poll was conducted June 7-10, with a sample of 1,004 adults and a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points. Okay not a good poll but still.

You can't sit in front of FOX snews and expect that to be the facts. DU has always been a good source because the news get aggregated here from many sources. And the reputation here was always that original posts had better be accurate and correct, There are enough member here vetting the information that bunk gets debunked very quickly.

(17,493 posts)They may have decided to leave behind a real mess for either Hillary or Obama, whoever was the Democratic candidate, knowing that there was no chance that the next Democratic president could lead a recovery in four years.
They hoped that while they would lose the Presidency for four years, they would take control of both houses of Congress and the White House in 2012. When the economy finally recovered as is likely during the next four years, the Republicans would get credit and still maintain control of Congress in the following midterm elections and the 2016 race for President. As part of their plan they refused to cooperate with any ideas Democrats proposed that would enable a recovery.
The only problem with my theory is why they had such a weak selection of candidates to run for President this year. The Republican primary was a circus. It is almost like the Republicans are willing to concede this race to Obama and wait for the 2016 election to run a strong candidate.

(4,490 posts)Don't get me wrong, I consider him a good symbol and example of what is wrong with the conservative philosophy, so I have no problem with criticisms being directed at him personally. And he was an awful president. I just think his presidency is the natural result of things that have been in play since Bush was no more than a coked up drunk in Texas no one could have imagined as one of the most powerful people in the world.
Got to go to work, so I can't explain more, but I hope someone gets what I'm saying :-P I'll say more if I can remember to find this thread and am awake enough when I get home, lol.

(10,281 posts)Bush as Poster-Boy for bad policies is reasonable, but he is the RESULT of those bad policies, at LEAST as much as the economic mess is. That a lot of GOP-ers think he was not conservative ENOUGH...well, that's them throwing him under the back of the bus instead of the front, and the reading of history will be just the same. Personally, I blame the last 15 Congressional Bodies at least as much for this mess as I do His Majesty, The Shrub.

(42,770 posts)Noot interviewed yesterday about the meeting the republicans had on inauguration
day, Jan 2009. They created a strategy to stay completely united, be obstructive,
and blame Obama RELENTLESSLY. And they did it. They managed to neuter him.
It is so sad to think back to those early days of unity. How hopeful everyone was.
And how they managed to take that away - our chance to change.
Boy, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, huh.

(10,281 posts)These fuckers will not LET you govern from the Majority, you must therefore to do it anyway. If that means playing mean (for instance, ending Dual-Tracking in the Senate) then, by all means, you have MY blessing. Until they learn what MINORITY PARTY actually means, and take to heart the fact that "you are not in charge here anymore", they shouldn't be allowed the PRIVILEGES of institutional nicety and Co-Governance.
They think they are the only ones who know how to act like a dick. I think it's PAST time that our elected Dem's show them otherwise.

(25,771 posts)I think this is the wrong concept ... and it plays into the right wing meme that the Dems are "still whining that it was Bush's fault". The concept of blame makes it sound like a schoolyard 'I'm rubber your glue' fight.
Its about policies and the consequences of wrong policies.
The right would rather use the word "blame" than "responsibility"
Responsibility takes it off the playground ... and the Republicans and there minions in the media would rather stay in the sandbox.

(11,014 posts)it was okay to blame Bush in the first year.
However, he needed to switch gears and tell the people how he was going to fix the economy and how repukes were foiling his every attempt. Every time the repukes shut the recovery, there should have been people from the admin on every talk show and on every open microphone saying hos republicans want a bad economy for partisan reasons.
However, he focused too much on healthcare -- without ever explaining to plain folks how the healthcare legislation would help them get a job ... i.e lower costs for US corporations leading to expansion.
I don't recall anyone arguing that repuke governors were killing high speed rail projects ONLY to keep Obama from creating jobs.
I don't recall anyone arguing how "fountain up" (as opposed to "trickle down" economyt would work with an investment of deficit spending where each dollar spent on infrastructure projects would bring back $1.07 in revenue to the government.
It is not too late and they need to call the rethugs on their tactics. Unfortunately, Obama is no Bill Clinton who can communicate to people on their level in a non-uppity way and make them understand.
