2,000th U.S. death reported in Operation Enduring Freedom

Source: CNN

(CNN) -- The death of a U.S. Marine in southern Afghan combat has ushered in a grim milestone. Cpl. Taylor J. Baune of Andover, Minnesota, is the 2,000th American to die in Operation Enduring Freedom, the name for what the Bush administration characterized as the "war on terror" after the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

The operation began with the invasion of Afghanistan and the toppling of the Taliban, which harbored the al Qaeda terror network that conducted the attacks. But there were military actions and activities in other countries, nearby and far-flung.

Most coalition casualties have occurred in Afghanistan, but others occurred in Pakistan, Uzbekistan. Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, Seychelles, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Yemen.

The number of Americans who've died in Afghanistan itself totals 1,884.

And missing young service man, there have been a total of 13,000 killed and wounded Americans since Obama took office.

This is all so sad. And of course, the losses suffered by the Afghan people, over an area that will continually be fought over by other nations for its quite valuable opium crop, is heart breaking as well.

Our CiA loves its dope wars. And will not willingly let go of this one, until We The People stand together and say enough is enough.

of our Military Industrial Complex. Murder and genocide will continue, because
"We own the world". Romney will certainly do his best to engage in a war with Iran, because this puppet serves the corporate state.

It will be an easy decision for him, he received four deferments and never had to serve. Has anyone in the Romney family ever served in the military? None that I know of. .

KABUL (Reuters) - - India has done well to resist U.S. calls for greater involvement in Afghanistan, the Taliban said in a rare direct comment about one of the strongest opponents of the hardline Islamist group that was ousted from power in 2001.

The Taliban also said they won't let Afghanistan be used as a base against another country, addressing fears in New Delhi that Pakistan-based anti-India militants may become more emboldened if the Taliban return to power.
The Afghan Taliban have longstanding ties to Pakistan and striking a softer tone towards its arch rival India could be a sign of a more independent course.
