John McCain: Mitt Romney Super PAC And Others Receiving Foreign Cash

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON — Sen. John McCain said in an interview posted online Friday that "foreign money" was helping fellow Republican Mitt Romney's presidential hopes and singled out one of his ally's most generous supporters.

McCain, the GOP's 2008 presidential nominee, suggested casino magnate Sheldon Adelson's $10 million contribution to a pro-Romney super PAC was a conduit for Adelson to use profits from properties in Macau to shape American elections. McCain also criticized the Supreme Court ruling that allows individuals and corporations to make such unlimited donations to nominally independent political action committees.

"That is a great deal of money. And, again, we need a level playing field and we need to go back to the realization that Teddy Roosevelt had: that we have to have a limit on the flow of money and that corporations are not people," McCain said in an interview with PBS' "NewsHour".

The comment about corporations was at odds with Romney, who last year told a heckler at the Iowa State Fair that "corporations are people, my friend." Romney's critics seized on the comment as proof the wealthy candidate favored businesses over individuals.

to deviate from the party line. He does the same on state issues. Too bad for the country that there's so few of them who do.

Sorry, can't agree with that. The phrase "money coming from foreign sources" really does center around that money coming from -primary- sources; i.e., actual foreigners. In this case we have an American who owns a business abroad and makes money off of it. That really IS a different thing. That's simply a form of trade. And while I'm with McCain that there's too much money in politics (with an asterisk 'cause he never saw a check he didn't like in 2008...) his specific point is badly made.

he was adored. This really pissed off the Republican and they call foul for other countries influencing our elections.

Now, foreign money is possibly being used to support a Republican and it is fine.

I am so tired of the double standard. When will this country wake up?

I rmember him mouthing "Not true" when Obama criticized the CU ruling and pointed out that it would bring about foreign money into campaigns.

Of course it would happen. So many of our corporations have tentacles in foreign countries. It's a no brainer that CU wouldn't open the floodgates of foreign money.
