Spokesman: Christie misspoke on Trump's Superstorm Sandy aid

By JOSH CORNFIELD

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's spokesman said that the governor misspoke Monday when he cited a donation by presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to Superstorm Sandy relief efforts as a sign of his generosity.

Christie told Michigan's Republican delegation in Ohio Monday that his wife, Mary Pat Christie, asked the billionaire businessman for a donation. "One of her first calls was to Donald Trump. And it wasn't a long phone call. He said, 'Mary Pat, I like Chris, but I'm scared of you.' He said, 'How much does the check need to be? Just tell me and I'll send it.'"

But Trump isn't listed in a final report thanking the more than 150 people and companies that donated at least $25,000 to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund effort run by Christie's wife, Mary Pat, after the devastating 2012 storm.

Trump has been called out previously for failing to donate to charities even after promising he would, including his own charitable foundation. However, in this case, there was no indication Trump ever promised to make such a donation in the aftermath of Sandy.

3. Christie taking back the butt-kissing he's had with Trump now that he's been snubbed as a VP pick?

That's what it looks like.

It wouldn't surprise me if we hear some other tell-all tales from Christie walking back some flattering things he's said about Trump in an attempt to get on his good side.

8. That's a hell of a "misspeak" Maybe "lie" is a better word?

I usually believe someone misspoke if they do something like transpose numbers or harmlessly get a name wrong. But when the original statement is 180 degrees out of phase from the truth, I believe we should call that a lie.

Also, even if this was true, it doesn't exactly paint Trump in a good light. Mister billionaire philanthropist shouldn't have needed to be asked to donate. He lives in the area, he knows the devastation, he's rich, and he brags about his giving. He should have been making it rain (so to speak) without being asked.

Christie told Michigan's Republican delegation..."One of (Mary Pat's) first calls was to Donald Trump...He said, 'Mary Pat, I like Chris, but I'm scared of you...How much does the check need to be? Just tell me and I'll send it.'"

Was Chris a first-hand witness to the conversation between Duh Donald(TM) and Mary Pat, or he did repeat what Mary Pat had told him? If what Mary Pat told him is true, was Duh Donald telling the truth when said he'd send a check and simply forgot to follow through, or did he deliberately and maliciously lie to her? Let's not leap to conclusions...

with the Feds still sniffing around Bridge(t)-Gate.

There were complaints about how slowly the money was being disbursed -- they sat on $32M for four months. (One percent of $32M is $320,000. Was the money held up at least three months in order to skim the interest?)

She received $4.5M from the embassy of the United Arab Emirates: shouldn't that have gone into the public coffers even if her husband WASN'T in charge of them?

And she managed to get $1M out of Jon Bon Jovi -- two months after he helped convince her husband to pass a "Good Samaritan" drug overdose prevention law, AND despite running his OWN a Sandy charity as part of his eleven-year-old foundation!

Can't believe Christie had the gall to lie about Trump's generosity and then snitch on him when he didn't get the VP slot.
