Poll: Trump supporters unfazed by reversal on self-funding

WESTFIELD, Ind. (AP) — Donald Trump's voters adored him for mostly paying his own way in the first half of the presidential campaign. Yet those same people are shrugging their shoulders now that he's raising money just like the rivals he once disparaged as the "puppets" of big donors.

A new Associated Press-GfK poll found that 63 percent of Trump supporters say they're at least somewhat more likely to back a self-funded candidate, just as he once was. However, just 13 percent consider it a problem that Trump changed his mind — and nearly all those think it's only a minor one.

How can people care so strongly about a candidate's original stance and then not care at all when he changes his mind?

At a Trump rally this week near Indianapolis, some of his most ardent supporters explained their thinking. Many said it wouldn't be fair for Trump, a billionaire businessman, to have to spend his own money against Hillary Clinton. The presumptive Democratic nominee and her allies aim to raise $1 billion for the general election.

Funding, wife plagiarizing speech, being a racist...no impact on his supporters. None.

building personal loyalty is very important to the conman -- that way, as his lies are exposed, the primary victims will deny that it's a problem at all: "there's a lot more to my support than the details of what he said in the past." watch it happen.

this is also the response they'll give when confronted with the obvious reality that Mexico is not going to pay for a stupid-ass wall across its northern border.

Right-wing authoritarians are notoriously forgiving of their own failings and those of the leaders they choose to trust.

It's because thinking is very hard for them. They invariably choose "belief" over "thought," and "hypocrisy" is just another of those ten-cent words they skip over in Snapchat.

Case in point - - - last night during the convention coverage, I posted on Facebook that I couldn't stand the hate that was being spewed, etc.

Two of the most ardent Trump supporters "liked" my comment. They were not aware that I was referring to the convention, probably weren't watching it, and may not have even known that it was happening.

They like Trump because everyone else they know likes Trump.
