Poll: Trump leads Clinton in Mo. by 10 points

Source: KSDK

While it's no surprise Missouri could go for Trump in November, KSDK political analyst Dave Robertson is surprised to see Trump with such a large lead at this point in the election cycle.

“Because I thought the establishment Republicans...might be a little more hesitant to jump the Trump bandwagon,” said Robertson. “They seem like they're convinced that Trump is the candidate whose coattails they need to ride.”

The border war was simmering in both Iowa and Kansas prior to the Civil War, largely because Missouri was a slave state. If memory serves me correctly The Missouri legislature voted to succeed. Unfortunately for them the 1st Iowa regiment crossed the border without orders and the legislature fled. Saint Louis was very pro union, but most of the rest of the state was had Southern sympathies. Missouri was really mostly occupied enemy territory and was one of the first places that black union troops (from Kansas fought. Guerrilla bands were a huge problem in Missouri. Having lived on both the Iowa and Kansas borders as a boy I would say that the locals still regarded Missouri as a backward place. The standard joke was that the sign at the border said "Welcome to Misery".

no more than Mittens won in it 2012, Obama barely lost in 2012, but it's not a critical state like OH, FL, or VA, it probably depends on how much resources are put into the state by both campaigns and the GOTV efforts in KC and STL by the Dems, If Hillary does win MO it will be an electoral rout, it's not a solid red state like KS

After 2012 the gop said that they needed more women, blacks, and hispanics to
be in the race in national elections ... Trump does not help w/those groups and Pence

Much of the state is rural and lilly white. I used to live in Southern Illinois, not far from MO and St. Louis. MO was a hell hole of Conservative and racist assholes. St. Louis was OK, urban, somewhat nice, but they wanted to keep all the AA's on the other side of the Mississippi in East St. Louis. I haven't been down there since the early 90s so I have no idea what its like now.

Wonderful country but a lot of the locals around that area were just nasty. The n-word,
confederate flags, and dumb ass red necks were all too common. The civil war is not over

2012 MO election results: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election_in_Missouri,_2012

So its not surprising that Trump leads Clinton by 10 in a post convention bounce.

In 2008, McCain squeaked MO out by 5k votes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election_in_Missouri,_2008

In 2004, Bush beat Kerry in MO, 56% to 43% https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election_in_Missouri,_2004

So this isn't much in the way of news, especially here, that MO will go for Trump is not a surprise at all.

MO is probably a lost cause, but if Hillary can pull off a 50-state push and make Trump defend a dependable place like MO (or other deep South states) that makes taking OH, PA, and FL much easier for Democrats.

Trump is almost certainly going to win the states that Romney won. Republicans aren't going to vote for Hillary and Dems aren't going to vote for Romney, so the election is going to turn on who gets out the vote (and perhaps a bit on independents, though I'm not sure there are many true independents out there).

MO and PA are old and white if you remove the urban areas, but GA is full of young college educated Northern (Yankee) transplants in the Atlanta area, PA isn't solid blue state, MO isn't a sold red state, PA will go red in a Repubican rout, MO will go blue in a Democratic rout,
