Dogs rescued from boiling hot tar roof in Newark
Source: NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
As a heatwave continues to lash the tristate area, helpless animals have been some of the hardest hit.
A pit bull and Yorkie were found atop a Newark, N.J., residence Friday, where the 96-degree day had caused the tar roof to boil and stick to their fur and skin.
A local branch of the Associated Humane Society responded to a concerned call about two dogs "dancing" on the imaginably hot surface to keep themselves from burning. Officers arrived to find the desperate creatures in pain.
"The yorkie continuously ran to the edge of the roof to try to find an area that would not burn her further while the pit bull, covered in hot tar, had nearly given up hope," the Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter posted on Facebook.
"No one was at home at the residence and while there were trays of chicken legs and rice on the roof, there was not a drop of water in sight. Feces covered the roof as well so apparently, this is where these poor dogs live."
