Hoyer: Some Dems Will Vote To Hold Holder In Contempt For Fast And Furious

Source: CBS DC

WASHINGTON (AP) — Now that the politically potent National Rifle Association is keeping score, some Democrats may join House Republicans if there’s a vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress in a dispute over documents related to a botched gun-tracking operation.

The chief Democratic House head counter, Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, declined to tell reporters how many defections he expected, but acknowledged that some in his party would consider heeding the NRA’s call for a “yes” vote.

The gun owners association injected itself last week into the stalemate over Justice Department documents demanded by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. The NRA said it supports the contempt resolution and will keep a record of how members vote.

And I include the NRA as part of that Beltway bubble; they are headquartered in D.C.

is corrupting the Democratic Party. What in the hell is a private corporation doing issuing licenses for guns anyway?

When they can go around and openly promote Republicans while scaring Democrats, that means they've outlive their usefulness and have become just another corporate entity.

I think voters need to punish Democrats that vote with the Republicans on this one. While I am generally happy that the Democrats are not a single unified body, always moving and voting as a block, there are some votes such as this one where deviation from a NO vote should never be tolerated.

Until Democrats learn there will be a price to pay for this kind of treachery they will continue to do it. I realize some of them are concerned that the NRA and their friends (Koch Brothers) may set their sights on them during a re-election campaign but to that I say, "grow a pair".

From what I can see there is insufficient basis for charging the AG with contempt. This is trumped-up charge raised for purely political and not governmental or oversight purposes.

audit the NRA and follow the trail then take away their tax free exemptions

that taxfree money alone probably would balance the budget (ditto organized religion)

If Democrats would stay firm as a block for once, this story would die.
That is how things worked during the Bush years.
By making this a 'bipartisan' contempt citation, these Democtatic defectors are continuing to support what is effectively a partisan witch hunt.
If it resolved down to a party line vote, the Democratic leadership could just call it what it is and the story would die.

Honestly I could give two shits about this whole affair. It started under Bush and is a continuation of this misguided drug 'war' that has been a decimating anchor weight on our society.
THAT should be the story, not this bullshit 'Fast and Furious' debacle.

to purge the Congress of ALL DINO's. I cannot get much worse than this. Spineless Dems make me cringe, they cower and grovel before Republican threats, and now they will vote against eric Holder because the NRA is going to score the vote. The NRA is about 4 million strong and they get to dictate policy ? Scary, to say the least. For me, it is getting very close to NOT voting, let the Republicans take over the house, senate and Presidency, and let the morons who vote them in for their version of "Change", suffer the after effects, of lower pay, no medical coverage, Social Security being privatized, longer work days and shorter vacations, if at all. I am fed up with electing the morons that fill the Congress and the Supreme Court.

This is what the Right wants, and I am prepared to let them have it.

Watch what people do, not what they say. Pretty simple to me..People need to watch both and they don't until it is to late. Either fix it now or later. Only choice NOW, is to fix it later. People probably will not even do that. It's sad. But that is also the way the World is. I myself don't loose sleep over it. I see what it's about.

This, as an undercover operation, as a scandal, as a conspiracy theory, this as anything other than an embarrassing failure is so goddamn stupid, it hurts!

Anyone who votes to censure Holder (who I think is almost worthless as a Attorney General) passes the most profound test for Stupid, ever. I am predicting unanimous for Republicans.
