Trump: You Know I Love The Disabled Because My Buildings Are Accessible
Source: Talking Points Memo
In an interview with Fox News' Brian Kilmeade that aired on Thursday, Donald Trump defended his comments from last year about a disabled reporter and said he would never mock a disabled person, citing his efforts to build handicap accessible buildings as evidence.
Asked about his comments on Serge Kovaleski, a reporter with a condition that limits mobility in his arms who now works for the New York Times, Trump said: "I spend millions of dollars making buildings good for people that are disabled, okay? Millions and millions of dollars. Do you think Id ever do a thing like that?"
The Americans with Disabilities Act requires that buildings accommodate people with disabilities, so Trump spent "millions" to comply with federal law. To top it off, Trump doesnt exactly have a perfect record of making his properties handicap accessible. Hes been sued several times for not making his properties sufficiently accessible for people with disabilities, according to the Daily Beast.
Trump appeared to mock Kovaleski last year after the reporter pushed back on Trump's use of his article to back up claims that "thousands" of New Jersey residents were seen celebrating the 9/11 attack.

His sales reps were amazingly well versed in the details of each unit and its construction AND the guys ALL wore cufflinks, get this, because Trump says that's "classy".

(23,996 posts)the scary part is, somewhere there are millions of people who hear him say this and think, "Yup, that proves it, he really cares about disabled people", and nod their empty heads.

(26,514 posts)doesn't get sued. He should also thank us 'loser' architects who ensure spaces are ADA compliant. Then there's that whole thing about fucking them over when it's time to pay up. I swear this walking rectum gets more pathetic every day.

(13,879 posts)You get a notice to upgrade the building and must enter into an agreement on when it will be done and submit plans. If you fall behind schedule or fail to do the work, they can go to court and, in extreme cases, get an order to shut the property down until it is in compliance. Yes, law enforcement officials show up, make everyone leave the building, and then padlock the front doors. Then, if you don't care to make the improvements, no problem, your building just sits there empty.
This would be the same as bragging that you always pay minimum wage - cause you're going to get busted if you don't !

(10,252 posts)building codes REQUIRE them, not because he cares about the disabled. The building inspectors would not even give him a permit to build, unless the architect's blueprints included access features. Trump is such a liar.
