Congressman Dent will not stand for reelection

Source: City & State PA

UPDATE: Shortly after the publication of this story, Dent told New York Times reporter Jonathan Martin that he would not seek another term.

A source close to Congressman Charlie Dent has said the Republican will not stand for reelection in PA’s 15th Congressional district. A formal announcement will be issued shortly.

The news comes on the heels of increasing tensions between Dent and state Rep. Justin Simmons, who accused the more-moderate Dent of colluding with Democrats. In turn, Dent released several private text messages between himself and Simmons, aimed at embarrassing the state Rep.

I hope the party picks a good candidate and helps us avoid a tea party zombie.

Reminds me of August 2013, when Jo Bonner (Alabama 1st Congressional District - GOP) quit. I know Jo, and I know his ambitions (GovAla), but ... whoa .....!

But what happened a month after Jo Bonner quit the US Congress? The Tea Party (that was not Jo Bonner's gig) shut the government down. IMO, Bonner saw that coming. He quit to avoid complicity.

We can do worse than Charlie Dent.

he ran for Congress. He was pretty much known as a moderate R. Once he became a congressman, he rarely broke ranks, but his reputation as a "moderate" from his state rep days continued to follow him and he was relected each cycle.

Now that Dent is retiring, Dems should have a decent chance to pick up this seat. Maybe one of the Casey's will run.

bill in the state house to go with the budget the GOP legislature passed before Gov Wolf is forced to make across the board cuts.

The state house is hanging up everything with their taxophobia.
