Hurricane Jose upgraded to category 4 storm behind Irma

Source: The Hill

BY MAX GREENWOOD - 09/08/17 10:51 AM EDT

Hurricane Jose has strengthened into a Category 4 storm, the National Hurricane Center said Friday, warning that the storm could continue to grow.

The hurricane, which is currently tearing through waters in the central Atlantic Ocean, is approaching the northern Leeward Islands, with maximum sustained wind speeds of up to 150 miles per hour.

According to NHC forecast models, Hurricane Jose is soon expected to turn northwest, though it remains unclear how close it will get to the Leeward Islands, which include St. Martin, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Barbuda.

Hurricane watches and warnings are already in effect for St. Martin, Antigua, Anguilla and Barbuda.

Woke up to the news of an 8-point earthquake in S. Mexico.

Praying for those in harm's way.

Not to mention the fires raging in the west and midwest and the torrential flooding in other parts of the world which are really not being mentioned much in the news.

so the hope is that it won't be able to strengthen much more. Barbuda is still at risk, though.

Where is the God Squad to tell us this is their deity's revenge for being "libbrul?

Maybe it's time for TV preacher Graham Franklin* to tell us that being "libbrul" really doesn't mean storms will strike only you, and that being "conserv'tive" and praying as hard as you can still doesn't mean you will be spared.

*no matter what his gazillionaire evil alter ego with the first and last names reversed might tell you...........

Yeesh. I'm sitting on the Hayward fault, and after Mexico's 8+ quake we're waiting nervously for our turn.

11-17 named storms, 5-9 Hurricanes of which 2-4 will be majors.

With just under 3 months to go to the end of the season, we have had 11 named storms, 6 becoming hurricanes, and 3 majors. Normally, end August/September is the peak period so we're in line for the upper end of the predicted numbers.
