Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel spent almost seven minutes of his opening monologue Tuesday night (Sept. 19) slamming U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, of Louisiana, for Cassidy's latest proposal to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
"This guy, Bill Cassidy, just lied right to my face," Kimmel told viewers watching "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Tuesday.
Kimmel's monologue was sprinkled with only a few jokes. He wanted his opposition to Cassidy's health care plan to be taken seriously. The comedian ended his remarks by pleading with the public to contact their members of Congress to oppose Cassidy's health care overhaul. Kimmel even shared the phone number to the main congressional switchboard to make it easier for people to contact their representatives.
"Sen. Cassidy, you were on my show. You seemed like you were a decent guy. But here's the thing, nobody outside of your buddies in Congress wants this bill," Kimmel said.

(32,917 posts)The TOTAL BS coming out of our Senate and House of Representatives is shocking and amazing now.
What is this, the 4th or 5th version of the GOP "healthcare" bill (that's not about healthcare it's really a taxcut) and that's all they've done this year. We pay these guys $200K per year to do nothing, they can't even write a decent bill. Nobody wants this bill, nobody wants this healthcare. Nobody wants Obamacare to be taken away. Why do they keep trying to do this?
As far as I can see, every GOP Senator or Representative who's up for re-election next year should lose their seat. Not a single one is worth keeping. This has been a giant vacation for them, they've done nothing all year. And before this year, all they did was obstruct Obama at every turn. American taxpayers are paying these guys $200K per year for nothing.

(4,699 posts)because the Koch's and their ilk have told them no more money until you kill Obamacare and give us a tax cut. They don't care about us or their constituents or what's good for American citizens. The second reason is they've spent so much time telling their brainwashed base that Obamacare is bad that they're afraid of backlash and losing votes if they can't repeal it. They're addicts and all addicts will lie, cheat, steal and murder to get their fix. They are not the republicans of the past. They are traitors bent on the destruction of America at the expense of their own enrichment.
I get it, I'm a member of DU same as you.

(11,175 posts)His show attracts viewers by having a funny opening monologue. He decided this was important enough to him to ditch that. Gutsy!

(51 posts)There simply not enough adjectives in the English language that adequately express my disdain and disgust by the actions, beliefs, lies, incompetence, ignorance, corruption, and the total lack of integrity now on display by our (excuse me while I barf) "leaders". Of course, this includes,
- The Trump Family (I'll exclude poor Barron. But, he sure does have poor role models and I hope he doesn't get started with the 10W-40.)
- Mitch, The Turtle, McConnell
- Ted, The Nose, Cruz
- Betty Devos (and her mercenary brother)
- Tom Price (Health insurance! You don't need no stinkin health insurance. Die already you poor bastards.)
- Jeff, The White Hood, Sessions
- Steven Mnuchin and that gold digging wife of his (how else can you explain her marrying that face?)
- Rick Perry (Did you see that really bizarre Dancing With the Stars segment he did? What planet was he on?)
- Ben Carson (He's a brain surgeon, REALLY? Dementia must have struck early.)
- A special mention for Fox News (we all know that "News" in this context really means propaganda)
- etc., etc., etc., etc. I don't have all night.
Thank God for Xanax.

(45 posts)...and the monsters trying to force it through
Congressional GOP members speaking to the media are generally lying through their teeth, claiming that the bill guarantees coverage of the same basic health needs of American citizens as the ACA, or pretends it isn't a cynical ploy to win votes by transferring federal funding from higher cost blue states and other states that faithfully administered healthcare toward the interest of their constituents, toward red states whose state governments obstructed the ACA for political purposes. It's always frustrating to watch as the news anchor then dances around the issue and uses overly diplomatic language in questioning.
It's so refreshing when someone with media influence who is very cognizant of the stakes is willing to bring attention to the matter and call it like he sees it.
