The company that owns TJ Maxx and Marshalls is continuing to pay its employees in Puerto Rico even though many its stores remain closed.
CNN reported that TJX Companies _ which owns TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods has kept paying the employees after Hurricane Maria tore through the island earlier this year.
"We believe it is the right thing for us to do under these circumstances," TJX spokeswoman Erika Tower told the network in a statement.
The company has 29 stores in Puerto Rico, but it is not clear how many of those stores are closed or how many people are employed by those stores.

(6,402 posts)Lots of good decisions being made there these days (they're local for me).
They've got a lot of overseas expansions going on these days and can definitely absorb the "hit" to take care of their employees. My ex works at corporate and they're beyond good to their team. Very loyal company.

(23,193 posts)Guess it's time to go there and look for some shoes and comfy walking clothes. I love supporting the good guys and boycotting the bad, like no buying of any Koch products, ever.

(58,785 posts)but with the rest of the holidays practically on top of us purchasing a ceramic deer to lounge in the middle of the table, or a Santa's elf guest towel holder for the powder room, won't be too painful.

(5,815 posts)They have lots of name brand merchandise at discount prices. Holiday shopping is always fun since they have tons of holiday decor for nearly any major holiday you can name. They also have interesting and unusual food like coffee, oils, spices, snacks and candies. Their housewares is amazing and nicely priced. Anyone who likes to wander and check stuff out needs to give them a try! They usually keep their stores neat and organized .... not junky like some discount stores do.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had such a compassionate policy toward their employees. I will be sure to speak to a manager the next time I go to our local TJ Maxx to let him know it has influenced my thinking and I will tell others to give their stores a try!
