Ryan sets record for closing down debate in House: report

Source: The Hill

House Speaker Paul Ryan has reportedly set a record for closing down floor debate in the House.

Politico reported the House Rules Committee, controlled by Ryan, has not allowed lawmakers to give amendments on a bill for the 49th time — breaking a record for the most closed rules in a session.

“The Republican Majority has now made history for all the wrong reasons,” said Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) in a statement.

“Under Speaker Ryan’s leadership, this session of Congress has now become the most closed Congress in history.”
Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) said when lawmakers offer amendments, they "have to be approved by leadership before we get a vote on them."

"And that's not how our system is supposed to work," he said.

Anyone heard of or seen any hearings on the "budget".....................not me, its just like the McConnell crew everything is behind closed doors, after all those chambers are "our" chambers

To solve this problem, I think I have one.......................

Those bastards seem to think they're kings and we're their subjects. Hopefully last nights election results will wake them up a bit (though I doubt it).

There have been some - basically dragging department heads in to justify their requests. It's just that when either chamber is "in session" with things happening on the floor, the CSPANs (CSPAN & CSPAN2) will opt to show the floor activity vs the hearings (although CSPAN3 might show a "hot" hearing).

Some videos just by googling - https://www.google.com/search?ei=AhIDWoTDFYGtmwHivrOgBg&q=cspan+budget+hearings&oq=cspan+budget+hearings&gs_l=psy-ab.3...3458.4123.0.4235.7.6.0.0.0.0.167.290.0j2.2.0....0...1.1.64.psy-ab..6.1.165...0i7i30k1j0i13k1j0i8i7i30k1j0i13i30k1j0i8i13i30k1.0.A2pQSUF5d0k

You can also search the archives of any hearings on the CSPAN & CSPAN2 sites.

What ends up happening however, the final bills may get marked up behind closed doors before being presented on the floor.
