MANILA (Reuters) - Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said on Wednesday he would tell U.S. President Donald Trump to “lay off” if he raises the issue of human rights when they meet.

Trump will be in Manila on the last leg of his 12-day Asian trip, which includes visits to Japan, South Korea, China, and Vietnam.

Trump will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Danang, Vietnam, make a state visit to Hanoi and end his trip with the Association of South East Asia Nations summit in Manila.

Duterte, who brooks no criticism of his human rights record and war on drugs, offered a comment on what he would tell Trump if he raised human rights.

Or anyone else, ever.

"Gee how can I get death squads like you?" is what you should expect from him.

to those of the Vietnam War generation. Danang was one of major battlegrounds and reminds me of all the brave young men who fought there. It shows the stupidity of that war and the loss of the 52,000 Americans who died. Hate he's going there!

On the other hand, if the USA refused to do business with everyone with whom we've had a war, stupid or not, we wouldn't have very many clients for our goods and services. What's past is past. I don't find the conference troubling at all.

ie..How dare he think I am soft on criminals! That I'd ever side with dirty criminals (like Democrats, MSM news, and pot smokers too)

He'll now probably double down on his past comments and lavish praise on Duterte for making the Philippines great again.

Unless it's his own personal human rights you are talking about.
That would take precedent over any topic you could think of.

He only cares about himself, his $ and Putin. That's it. His family is just him in his eyes, so as long as they go along with his schemes, they're OK. However, does anyone doubt he'd turn on them in a nansecond if he thought it helped him personally.
