Doc: O'Reilly Contract Barred Fox From Firing Him Unless Claims Proven In Court
Source: TPM
Although several women had accused then-Fox News host Bill OReilly of sexual harassment, forcing him to pay out large settlements to his accusers, Fox News stood by OReilly, one of the networks most prominent figures, until April of this year.
A document published by the British government on Wednesday revealed that OReillys contract with Fox News barred the network from firing OReilly over sexual harassment accusations unless the allegations were proven in court. Fox News had to stand by OReilly for the remainder of his contract unless one of his accusers won in court.
Jacques Nasser, an independent director on the board of 21st Century Fox, told the United Kingdoms Competition and Markets Authority about the contract provision, according to a summary of his remarks at an October hearing published by the authority.
The Competition and Markets Authority is reviewing 21st Century Foxs bid to acquire British news outlet Sky News. Fox has seen scrutiny from British regulators over the way the company handled sexual harassment claims against former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes and OReilly.

(38,458 posts)for sexual harassment. If Fox decided to go to court and the allegations were not proven, then Fox couldn't fire him...
......".ONLY FOX COULD FIRE HIM WHEN ALLEGATIONS WERE PROVEN IN COURT"
I am guessing that this is not a standard clause in contract agreements. So, O, Reilly had that clause put in during some contract negotiations, when Billo was the "star" of Fox News. He had probably had an "incident" that cost money, and then had his lawyer insert this clause into his contract to make it very difficult to fire him for sexual "incidents"
Please stop and think about that one. Billo couldn't be fired unless there was a court trial and accuser wins. So each time when Fox paid out big bucks to settle and quiet the accuser, Fox knew it couldn't fire him. Why? it was in his contract that they couldn't fire him for the pay outs, no matter how large the payouts were..
Not a bad deal if you are Billo..not a bad deal
