More Than 200,000 Gallons Of Oil Spill Along The Keystone Pipeline
Source: Buzzfeed
More than 200,000 gallons of oil have spilled out of the Keystone XL pipeline in South Dakota.
TransCanada, the company that operates the pipeline, said in a statement Thursday that about 5,000 barrels of oil had leaked from the pipe in Marshall County, South Dakota. One barrel holds 42 gallons, meaning the spill involved more than 200,000 gallons of oil.
According to TransCanada, the spill "was completely isolated within 15 minutes and emergency response procedures were activated."
"Crews, including TransCanada specialists from emergency management, engineering, environmental management and safety as well as contracted, nationally recognized experts are assessing the situation."

(57,756 posts)I was thinking SD would be really cold right around now. It was 16 degrees F in Duluth last week. Admittedly, that's a long way from Marshall County, SD.
They don't have their cars equipped with engine oil pan heaters for nothing.
Thanks.

(45,666 posts)think of all the jobs created by this pipeline. Think of the water that is for the First Americans reservation nearby and not for the privileged whites far away and it will all make sense why it was so important to route it right by a very important aquifer.
