May: Trump will visit the UK

Source: The Hill

BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 01/07/18 08:33 AM EST

British Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed in a new interview that President Trump will visit the United Kingdom.

“He will be coming to this country,” May told BBC’s Andrew Marr.

May’s office last year reportedly refused to revoke an invitation for Trump to visit the U.K after he re-tweeted videos posted by a British far-right nationalist leader. In the new interview, May also emphasized that she believes Trump is dedicated to acting in the best interests of the U.S..

“What I make of him is somebody who is taking decisions on what he believes is in the best interest of the United States,” May said.

Hell, this quote from May sounds like the weakest tea, bare minimum that diplomacy requires. Is signifies nothing.

Maybe get him to twist some EU arms on brexit. Good luck with that. She;s got to know Brussels will most likely tell him to go pound sand. Desperation move possibly? Fact is, Britain needs the EU far more than the EU needs Britain. Other than money shuffling, Britain just isn't relevant any more. And the problem with finance is it can be picked up and moved with relative ease. Without a sweetheart deal on brexit, Britain's economy is f'd and they know it. But that isn't going to happen.

The 'compliment' wasn't that OTT - "what he believes is in the best interest of the United States". She wasn't actually saying that his belief was well-founded. With most leaders, you'd take it for granted (yes, Trump is such a crook out for family gain that there is genuine doubt on the subject).

There's little upside for her saying "he's childish/senile/idiotic/bigoted/criminal"; very few UK voters would be more likely to vote for the Tories if she said it - their minds are already made up on the subject. Any possible Democratic successor to Trump won't be noticeably more friendly to her or the UK if she says it (and she may well be out of power before the Republicans are in the US - bookies' odds are for her to go in either 2018 or 2019). Being frank about Trump's defects would be more likely to get her a reputation as undiplomatic, which other leaders might not like. But Trump would go ballistic, and take revenge.

Most give superficial platitudes for the reasons you wrote, but May is gushing here, particularly given recent events and how incredibly unpopular shitgibbon is in the UK. She wants something very specific. I wonder what that is?

what I see is somebody who is committed to ensuring that he is taking decisions in the best interest of the United States

Quite an about face after the supposed leader of the free world retweets videos from a group the UK considers a dangerous threat to its national security and has banned. I can see not dropping the invitation, but the compliment is a bit over the top given recent events. Retweeting nationalist psycho bullshit doesn't appear to be the actions of ANYONE who's "taking decisions in the best interest of the US"..and certainly not Britain. So, I'm left with...what's the point? She's kissing and making up because she needs his help. A last ditch, desperation bid for a sweetheart, brexit deal perhaps?

The point is to *not* behave like Trump talking about Mexico. "He is doing his job" is not over the top, even if we think it's not accurate. When asked "is he childish?", you don't really expect leaders outside Trump or Duterte to say "yes", do you?

without saying much of anything and certainly not directly complementing the shitgibbon. He wouldn't understand and his handlers wouldn't tell him her comments were meaningless. I think this was purposefully put in terms he could understand.

Trump Demands a Ride in the Queen of England’s Golden Carriage

The president of the United States has requested to ride in Queen Elizabeth II’s golden state carriage during his upcoming visit to Buckingham Palace — a choice that will require a “monster” security operation.

Officials told the Times of London that, “The White House has made clear it regards the carriage procession down the Mall as an essential element of the itinerary for the visit ...

Trump reportedly regards the procession as 'essential'.

The Metropolitan Police are reportedly already considering how to balance Trump's security with the expected horde of demonstrators' right to protest.

Hundreds of heavily-armed security agents are reportedly set to travel with Trump, while there will also be a heavy presence of plain-clothed police officers, positioned snipers and firearms officers placed in the crowds.
