CIA Director Mike Pompeo pushed back on a claim that President Trump does not read in author Michael Wolff's explosive new book on the White House on Sunday, calling the assertions made in the book "absurd."
"This president reads material that we provide to him. He listens closely to his daily briefing," Cohn told Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday."
"This president is an avid consumer of a work product that our team at CIA produces and we do our best to convey that to him every day," he continued.
Pompeo was responding to a reported quote in Wolff's book "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House" from chief economic adviser Gary Cohn, saying the president will not read anything, including "one-page memos and brief policy papers.

(5,273 posts)Ridiculous to act like Wolff was claiming total illiteracy. Wolff is not the first to report that T is much less of a reader with much shorter attention span than any previous presidents. The shortness and simplicity found necessary for T's briefing reports has been well known and almost a year ago an internal memo was revealed about how his CIA briefings had to be pared down to only 3 main items per day with very little detail and simplified to bare bones to cater to T's grade school level of comprehension and short attention span.

(4,483 posts)It's my understanding that *everything* presented to Trump is abbreviated and simplified and, if possible, contains his name--otherwise he doesn't read it.
Remember the foreign leaders at that summit who were advised to keep their written material short, so Trump would (could?) read it? It's so well known all over the world that while, technically, Trump may be able to recognize words, he is no reader, that Pompeo's defense is beyond ludicrous.

(130,066 posts)Just because you hand him a piece of paper doesn't mean he actually reads it or really cares!
If he is not engaging in any 2-way conversations to get more details or request clarifications or asks for any next steps, then he is NOT "listening" and doesn't give a shit.

It's been reported that he will pay attention if they mention his name and praise the heck out of him. If they write the reports just right I'm sure dotard gobbles them up.

(9,291 posts)foreign world President. As long as the real one doesn't find it out, he's all good. Hell, he can place himself somewhere in a ten page briefing about how he will personally do the calls on all world events. Trump won't read, but will sign if he then can go play golf.
My dogs are more complicated.
