Republicans: Budget deal prospects are dimming

Source: Politico

One of the biggest stumbling blocks remains immigration — which lawmakers will discuss at the White House on Tuesday.

Congressional Republicans and White House officials are increasingly skeptical that they’ll reach a long-term budget agreement with Democrats in the next 11 days, accusing progressives of slow-walking a spending deal until they get what they want on immigration.

Party leaders from both sides of the aisle have been quietly working to raise stiff spending caps to avert a government shutdown before Jan. 19, when federal agency funding runs dry.

But Republicans claim Democrats won’t back a long-term spending plan until Congress agrees to shield hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants from deportation. The Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which gave safe harbor to “Dreamers,” formally ends March 5 — although some immigrants have already started losing their protections

Trump's move to end temporary status for Salvadorians was a sign to say that he'll follow through on deporting the DACA beneficiaries if a deal is not reached.

I have a feeling that if there is a government shutdown, that our side will get more blame for it from the public, no matter how the news media tells the story.

cause that is how it works - next time republicans take any responsibility for anything will be the first time in modern history, they blame liberals when they slam their fingers in their car doors. Meanwhile, Ds pretty much just mumble generic political babble.

The majority of the public supports DACA.

And I think the majority of the public is waking up to the evil which is the Republican Party.

Will love to see how they can win in 2018. Not sure their systematic gerrymandering and election fraud can outweigh what the complacent middle is starting to wake up to.....
