That was about a month after his first public statements confirming he was considering a political run."

A. The affair started on March 21st 2015 and continued throughout 2015, as stated in the Post Dispatch article.

B. The "He will run as a Republican" quote from the Washington Free Beacon predates the affair and blackmail threat. Therefore, Greitens was definitely a republican, not a Democrat, when he committed this crime.
