'I'm Running,' Romney Says Privately, but as a Trump Friend or Foe?

Source: The New York Times

By JONATHAN MARTIN JAN. 14, 2018

SALT LAKE CITY — A few days after Senator Orrin G. Hatch of Utah announced that he would conclude his tenure after serving 42 years in office, the state’s governor, Gary Herbert, was growing anxious about whether Mitt Romney would run for the seat.

“Let’s not be coy about this,” Mr. Herbert said he told a close Romney friend and prominent business leader, Kem Gardner. “If he’s going to run, let’s go. If not, we need to find somebody else to run, and there’s people that have been trying to queue up for the opportunity.”

Last Saturday, Mr. Gardner called the governor and read from a text that Mr. Romney had offered: “I’m running.”

The political resurrection of Mr. Romney appears unstoppable in a state where he was not raised and where he has not lived for most of his adult life. Mr. Romney, a Michigan-reared former Massachusetts governor, who was successfully treated for prostate cancer last summer, is beloved here as the savior of the Salt Lake Winter Olympics and Mormon royalty.

Said he would get on his knees to get the position. I think he’ll find out Romney is not going to bow down to him.

You wanted to be--you thought you WERE--the White Horse, saving the Constitution when it hung by a thread, according to the Mormon prophecy. But you didn't win the White House, so no white horse. HOWEVER--tRump is out to destroy America as we know it, shredding that same Constitution. As a senator, you can lead the charge against him and his minions, toss him and all his oligarchy out of DC and go down in history.
Or you can get elected and quietly join the destruction. Which one do you choose?

he can't do that. He thinks he's gonna be the first mormon president. I'm sure his god told him so.

Just what the USA needs--another predatory capitalist destroying anything that helps people other than the wealthy.

Anyone who works for a living and votes for mittens--or any puke--is an idiot.

He will get elected no matter what.

He probably won't mention Trump.

He will support whatever Ryan wants.

Romney's spine seems to be made of overcooked spaghetti: he'll go along with whatever Trump and McConnell want as long as it puts a little something in his pockets, and mouth some opposition catchphrases in public when he thinks it may benefit him.

I can't believe this is even being discussed now. Romney wasn't a good Presidential candidate, why would they want him as a Senator? Time to get a younger person, maybe even a woman. I'm not from Utah but if I were, that's what I would say.

Mitt Romney represents too much money, bad politics and no government experience. Who the hell wants that for for their Senator?
