'Fake News Awards' absent from Trump's White House schedule, dismissed as 'potential event'

Source: NY Daily News

President Trump’s so-called "Fake News Awards" were up in the air on the eve of the bizarre celebration of journalism at odds with his White House’s rhetoric.

When asked about the ceremony Tuesday afternoon, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders dismissed Trump's awards as “a potential event." By nightfall, the mysterious awards are absent from the President’s public schedule Wednesday.

Sanders told White House reporters she would divulge details on the awards at an unspecified time, with only 24 hours to go until the anticipated bash.

Trump, whose campaign bid and presidency has involved tirades against members of the press, announced the awards in early January. He pledged to hand out “THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR” to news outlets behind hard-hitting reports critical of his volatile administration.

An acceptance (or rejection) speech?

What an opportunity that would provide. Also, the many press member who would complain about not receiving one would give journalists another opportunity to make a point.

"I'm accepting this Fake News award on the behalf of the many people who contributed to it. You know, some people think that the only thing you have to do in the Fake News business is just to make shit up, but all of us in the Fake News business rely on a big group of co-workers and unpaid contributors who work together to bring the best of Fake News to you, our audience. First, of all, I'd like to thank our reporters in the field who didn't witness the things that didn't happen and our photographers who didn't record the non-events and labored through the wee hours editing those things into existence. I'd like to thank our historians and legal analysts for bringing to the story the nonexistent backgrounds and the totally spurious legal aspects that round out our Fake news. I'd like to thank our commentators and on-air reporters for bring the fake stuff to our loyal audience while wearing the cheesiest shit-eating grins. And last of all, I'd like to acknowledge the unseen army of technical people who devote their lives to laboring tirelessly behind the scenes to bring to the world every day a fresh steaming pile of horseshit.

And above all, I'd like to thank President Trump, who never, ever, ever tells a lie."
